d'Orsay for the gold!

Have you been watching the Winter Olympics?  I admit I haven't seen very much, but it's been an exciting to hear about the various US athletes winning gold.  So in the spirit of all those gold metals (4 so far!), I thought about all the lovely d'Orsay style shoes that are out for spring- in gold!  And for those of you in need of a vocabulary lesson:  "A d'Orsay style pump is a woman's shoe in which the vamp of the shoe is cut away very close to the toe box, and the sides are cut away, revealing the arch of the foot."  Feel more informed?  I do, too.

I'm probably dreaming since it'll be at least 3 months before I can wear these, but why not?

Gold and nude- terrific mix!

My girl Kate knows how to make a gold shoe.

Love & Laughter

With Valentine's day around the corner, I am loving (no pun intended) all the greeting cards out there.  You know, they range from SUPER cheese-ball to overly emotional, to down-right hilarious.  If you don't remember to get your cuteness a gift, maybe just score one in the card category- sometimes the sentiment is better than any gift (except for stellar jewels...right, ladies??).

This made me snicker.

Happen to love someone like this??
Boston peeps, Pine Straw sells this card!

The southern girl in me adores this.
Come on, this is funny.
I don't think I could!
Happy day of LOVE to all!

Piece of My Heart

I'm into puzzles.  Do you know this about me?  When snow-mageddon decides to hit or there's a momentary lapse in cable connection, I tend to take up puzzles.  I was psyched to receive "The 1980s" puzzle for Christmas, and I gifted a puzzle that is an aerial view of my friend's house, which was uber cool.  (Thanks LLBean)  But with Valentine's day approaching, I thought this was too cute to not feature:  The "where we met" puzzle for your sweetie!

Red Envelope $39.95
It's pretty adorable- there's a heart shaped piece over your chosen location.  And not to mention, you get mad points for the sentimental look back at where it all began.  Pretty darn cute, no?  Here's to piecing your story of love together!

Time to Consign

Friends, Happy 2014!  I hope your shopping travels took you fun places over the holidays- maybe even getting exactly what you wanted from a return or exchange? :) In any case, I find this is the PERFECT time of year to consign your clothes. Out with the old, in with the new!  Have you ever tried?

Those of you who have Second Time Around stores in your area- go!  But I will say, each functions and runs differently.  One location (I'll refrain from saying which one) refused to take anything that wasn't high level designer...and this location wasn't exactly in downtown Boston.  But another location, a bit off the beaten path, has taken almost everything I bring in- without any hesitation!  In fact, just before Christmas, I got a $110 check in the mail from my items that sold.  Score!  How's that for helping pay off holiday debts?!

If you are afraid to try consignment, don't be.  It's worth a shot whether I am donating and getting a tax write off or getting some $$ back faster.  And if you like to shop consignment, you can get some GREAT deals between seasons.  I saw ridiculous markdowns on winter coats- designer label!

Good luck!

Year of the Horse

When I was growing up, I have very fond memories of shopping with my mom in Las Colinas (Spanish for "the hills"- which you know wasn't much for flat Irving, Texas!).  I also spent many a childhood July 4ths on Williams Square in Las Colinas, where our local fireworks show would ring in the celebration of our nation's birth.  As I head home for the holidays and a new year (2014 here we come!), I started to think about how this will be the Year of the Horse (according to the Chinese Zodiac).  As a city girl, I never spent much time with real horses, but the one association I do have with the animals is with the Mustangs of Las Colinas sculpture.

The Mustangs of Las Colinas
If you've ever ventured to my hometown, you are bound to discover this breathtaking bronze sculpture of nine wild mustangs, galloping through the water.  As a child, I remember being in awe of them- their size, their stature, their magnificence.  So as we ring in a new year, maybe it's time I invite that same spirit of the horse- wild, free and strong!  This lovely charm from Texas jeweler, James Avery also could be a good reminder!

Running Horse $47
Happy New Year, friends.  May 2014 bring you much joy.
